Go health insurance!

I just applied for health insurance and put Eli on my plan. For the first time in close to 10 years Eli is officially covered. Universal health care anyone??
Anyway, enrolling for health insurance is never a fun task. Going through the coverage and making sense of it all. Fortunately we are both really healthy and have no plans to get pregnant any time soon (so stop asking stupid cops!!).
I was bummed, though, because I thought I had to pay a $175 monthly spousal surcharge for Eli to be covered. That is a lot of money. We looked at getting Eli his own insurance and the coverage wasn't awesome, but it was cheaper.
Well I looked into this spousal surcharge and found out you only have to pay it if your spouse gets insurance through their own employer. Score. Since Eli is self employed and can't have his own coverage, we don't have to pay the surcharge. This saves us about $144 a month by not getting him his own coverage.
BTW Thanks to the HR lady at work for making this clear. That's a joke cause she didn't make it clear at all...
I also made Eli the beneficiary to my life insurance. Sorry Mom and Dad, you don't get all $31,000 anymore!
So Eli is free to get sick now :) Just kidding. He still can't cause there's no one to cover for him at work...
Ah, the joys of being a newly wed and figuring this stuff out.
And, yes, I know I haven't posted pictures from the wedding yet....

Um, I know a certain Human Resources Professional who may have been able to lend some guidance.

Oh well, sucker.

J/K sounds like you made a smart decision. Happy Trails!
